The St. Andrews Society Annual Scholarship

Criteria for Application:

• The number and amount of the awards will be determined annually by the scholarship committee.  Total funds issued in any year will not exceed 20% of the available funds.

• Scholarships will be in the nature of financial assistance to members who want to improve their skills and/or knowledge in their particular area of interest in Scottish culture, i.e., dancing, music, certification, genealogy, history or language.

• Awards may only be used for skill and/or knowledge improvement. They may not be used for competition fees or travel costs.

• The applicant/recipient must be a Society member in good standing, or in the case of an applicant under age 18, at least one parent must be a member.

• Preference will be given to applications where other members of the St Andrew's Society will also benefit from the skills and/or knowledge gained by the recipient, i.e., going for a teaching certificate whereby they will return to teach others.

• The awards will be gifts and no repayment will be expected.

• The scholarship committee must receive written application by April 1, of each year.

• Award winners will be announced at the St Andrew's Society annual meeting.

• Awardees will be required to submit an article to the Society's newsletter, The Thistle Epistle, reporting their experiences and what they learned at the school, workshop, or seminar they attended.

• Awardees will be required to give a presentation at the first annual meeting of the St Andrew's Society following the completion of the school, workshop, or seminar.

• Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the school, workshop, or seminar for tuition fees.  If the applicant pays tuition before being awarded a scholarship, he/she may seek reimbursement by supplying proof of payment to the scholarship committee.

• Should there be any scholarship monies available after announcing awardees at the St Andrew's Society annual meeting, the scholarship committee may review additional applications received after the April 1, deadline.

• Additional pages may be attached

• Completed applications must be postmarked by April 1, of the year of the application

• Incomplete/illegible applications will not be accepted for consideration.

• Mail completed application to address listed at the top of the application.
